Body Goals

On International Women’s Day, I thought I’d take on a popular, unpopular topic - Body Goals.

. . .

I’d like to preface this message by clearly stating that my coaching philosophy is that healthy habits of movement, nutrition, sleep, and stress management, etc. take priority over any specific body aesthetic all day, every day.

. . .

➡️We receive a lot of messaging about our bodies as women:

“How to lose weight fast”…

“Strong is the new skinny”…

“Find your ideal body”…

“Strong > Skinny”…

“Lean body goals”…

”How to get slim thick”…

“How to lose weight in the right places”…

“How to gain weight in the right places”…

The list goes on and on.

. . .

➡️All of these messages can make it really challenging to clear the noise and to accept and celebrate our bodies in the present moment.

Further, it is challenging to discern our motivation for our body goals - is the motivation coming from within, or from external sources?

While it is 100% ok to want to make changes to your body - changes YOU want to make - the process has to start with accepting and celebrating your body exactly as it is, right now. We can love and accept our body as it is and still want/choose to make changes to our body - these are not mutually exclusive ideals.

Acceptance and appreciation are powerful places. From the place of acceptance and appreciation, YOU can decide what changes (if any) YOU want to make, and you can get really clear on your WHY.

Why do you want to pursue this body goal? What is the desired outcome, and why?

It’s your WHY that drives your motivation. It’s your WHY that keeps you going when you don’t feel like it and when you face the obstacles and barriers that come up along the way.

. . .

➡️I’ve spoken to so many women who repeat the exhausting cycle of pursuing various body goals without getting clear on their WHY first. This can not only sabotage body goals, but general health and wellness habits too.

. . .

➡️Once you celebrate and accept your body in the present moment, and once you get clear on your why, creating a game plan to achieve your body goals flows naturally.

. . .

It’s in living out your game plan daily where meaningful and sustainable change happens.

Your process and your mindset are the real magic.

. . .

We live in the process and the mindset daily, which makes it so much more important to focus on the process than the outcome.

. . .

I want to be clear - it is important to clearly define our desired outcome, but because we live in the mindset of the process every day - that is the space where our happiness, satisfaction, and success live.

. . .

➡️Do I have all of this perfected? Absolutely not!

. . .

However, I have gotten so much better at:

1) celebrating and accepting my body exactly as it is in various seasons,

2) getting clear on my goals and my WHY, and

3) committing to the process daily rather than focusing on the outcome.

I have found so much more happiness, freedom, and success in this space.

. . .

➡️If you are struggling to clear the noise and to identify your WHY, I see you and would love to connect with you.
